Description

Stillbirth in Bethlehem takes the raw French underground impulse and pushes it somewhere less stable. The record keeps the abrasion, the hostility and the refusal of polish, yet it also bends those elements into shapes that feel more erratic, more dissonant and more mentally frayed. Instead of marching forward with one fixed logic, the music keeps shifting its weight under you.

That is what gives the album its particular force. It does not simply sound primitive. It sounds unsettled. Riffs break away from expectation, structures refuse to sit still, and the atmosphere never settles into a single mood for long. Because of that, the record feels tense in a deeper way. It does not just attack. It disturbs.

There is still a link to the extended Les Légions Noires sphere, and you can hear it in the rawness and in the contempt for refinement. Even so, Recluse does not live by lineage alone. The material reaches into stranger territory, where hostility meets disorientation and repetition gives way to fracture. That makes Stillbirth in Bethlehem feel less like a relic of one scene and more like a warped continuation of its ugliest instincts.

Phil McSorley and Wlad Drakksteim give the album a specific weight as well. Their presence is not cosmetic. It adds to the sense that this release stands at a difficult crossroads between violence, experimentation and underground conviction. The sound stays abrasive throughout, but it never feels careless. The chaos is shaped. The damage is intentional.

This edition comes on black vinyl and includes a 30 cm double-sided printed insert. Drakkar Productions handled the release in a format that suits the material properly. It feels physical, stark and durable without cleaning away any of the roughness that makes the album worth hearing in the first place.

Recluse is for listeners who want black metal to become stranger without becoming softer. Stillbirth in Bethlehem does not offer comfort, clarity, or tradition in neat form. It offers fracture, pressure and a kind of warped conviction that keeps the whole thing alive.
